WiAUWiFi in Australia

user-generated and user-moderated maps of WiFi hotspots all over Australia

Features

WiFi in Australia is a collection of user-generated, user-controlled maps for WiFi hotspots across Australia. All the maps we have on WiFi in Australia are all created by people who live in or frequent the local area. There are no web-scrapers creating auto-content, nor is there an insidious team of people scrounging through the internet to find wireless listings. The WiFi hotspots on these maps are added by everyday Australians, for the use of everyday Australians.

WiFi in Australia uses a Google Maps style of interface, taking full advantage of Web 2.0 technologies creating a seamless mapping experience.

Open Maps, Open Access, Open Source

The maps have a Wiki-esque access style. Absolutely anyone can view maps and any registered user can add, edit, delete or otherwise change maps and markers - there are no access level restrictions, no moderators and no user caste-systems.

The maps on WiFi in Australia are completely open - and we believe the underlying technology should also be. All maps on WiFi in Australia are based on two fantastic open source mapping technologies:

Rich Formatting Using Standardised Markup

Descriptions for markers and maps are entered using WikiCreole, a standardised wiki markup language. By using a simple -to-learn markup it is easy to include rich formatting, links, tables and even images in your marker descriptions.
